Is It a Pocket or a Purse? Tighly Coupled Theory and Data Driven Learing

Abstract

This paper investigates how theory and data interact when people construct explanations. Our findings suggest that theory and data sometimes interact closely to determine explanations and the features upon which those explanations are based. We propose a model that captures this close interaction.
