Symbiosis in Multimodal Concept Learning

Abstract

In this paper we discuss an approach for learning multimodal concepts with Genetic Algorithms. The presented system Join-GA is a Genetic Algorithm for first order logic concept learning that has some features from both Michigan and Pittsburgh approaches. In fact, with different parameter settings it can be made either to a Michigan or to a Pittsburgh type system. The system learns multimodal concepts using, in addition to the normal genetic operations, symbiosis between individuals.
