Decision-Making in Time-Critical Situations

Abstract

There are a variety of tasks in which the amount of lime available to make decisions does not always allow a careful consideration of all oi the options. AIRPLAN is being developed to assist with one such task, managing the launch and recovery of aircraft on a carrier. This paper describes attempts to represent AIRPLAN's knowledge in a way that enables it to provide as much assistance as possible in the time available.
