A Parametric Hierarchical Planner for Experimenting Abstraction Techniques
Abstract
This paper presents a parametric system, devised \nand implemented to perform hierarchical planning \nby delegating the actual search to an external \nplanner (the "parameter") at any level of abstraction, \nincluding the ground one. Aimed at \ngiving a better insight of whether or not the exploitation \nof abstract spaces can be used for \nsolving complex planning problems, comparisons \nhave been made between instances of the \nhierarchical planner and their non hierarchical \ncounterparts. To improve the significance of the \nresults, three different planners have been selected \nand used while performing experiments. \nTo facilitate the setting of experimental environments, \na novel semi-automatic technique, \nused to generate abstraction hierarchies starting \nfrom ground-level domain descriptions, is also \ndescribed.
