Target Beliefs for SME-Oriented Bayesian Network-Based Modeling

Abstract

Bayesian network modeling has presented requirements for fixed-probability soft or virtual evidence findings that we refer to as target beliefs. We describe exogenously motivated target belief requirements for model nodes lacking explicit evidence, arising in practice when subject matter experts specify desired posterior probabilities as modeling constraints. Our framework supports non-technical subject matter experts in engaging with Bayesian network-based modeling of complex domains.
